2.9 Calls Like These

 What's wrong, Tilde?

Taking care of horses isn't always as fun as you dreamed it would be?

Ah yes. The Cinnamon scowl.

Neighbor Dessa Button, living her best life.

This customer wanted an accessory, and he is very happy with his new monocle.

"I hate winter," Ladonna says. "It's like watching the world slowly die."

Spencer plays guitar for her melancholy friend, surrounded by bones and rusty fences and dead logs and leafless trees.

"Thanks for playing for me, Spence."

"Any time."

Jym is hard at work in his nectary room. Staring vacantly at the walls is part of his process.

I leave Myles alone for five minutes, and he's painting with guns...

Grim sleeps with his eyes open. That's a thing you know now.

"When I think about how my relationship ended, it makes me so sad," Gino Parrott sniffles. "Everything reminds me of the time we spent together. Even my clothes. Give me a whole new wardrobe."

Glycerine hates calls like these.

She gives Gino the requested makeover, and gently suggests grief counseling.

His wife didn't divorce him or anything. She died of old age.

Alice Miller wanted something "bright and cheerful" to "stimulate the minds" of the three toddlers and two babies she has in this tiny house.

A new shirt was cheaper than repainting these beige walls, I guess.

And now Spencer wants a makeover.

"Mom, I know you wanted me to explore style on my own so I wouldn't feel like you're trying to mold my life, but... everyone thinks I'm a dork. Maybe you could help me look cool."

Glycerine wants to refuse, but perception is everything so maybe this will help her daughter's self-confidence and lift her spirits out of that failed-first-romance pit of despair.

Post-makeover Spencer.

Jym is getting sick of these prank calls asking him to deliver vine-grown cheese to the bistro.

"You know there's still pie in the fridge, right?"

"Yes Myles. There has been pie in the fridge since your engagement party."

Spring arrives. It is a time for new romances.

Spencer tries her luck at the spring festival, but it's raining, so everyone retreats into the barn with the unattended instruments. This is almost exactly what happened when Tilde tried to find a date here last spring.

Being a virtuoso, Spencer is drawn to messing around with the bass.

Her audience is unimpressed.

Pepper dies doing what she loved — watching television.

Sick of the festival already, and seemingly unaware of the tragedy at home, Spencer visits the music shop. She's already level 10 with guitar, and keeps rolling wishes to skill up with more instruments.

The shop owner allows Spencer to play with the merchandise. Those drums haven't sold in three generations, and this whole shop is just a money laundering front, so who even cares?

Spencer gets a text from her cousin Steve, asking if she wants to hang out in the arcade.

Of course she does.

She remembers she rolled a wish to play guitar for a whole bunch of people.

This is an appropriate time, right?

"You seem different lately," Aaron Martingale-Schreckengast tries to compliment Spencer. "Less nerdy."

"Like at least comb your hair before you talk to her," Lauren Fox sneers at him.

For once, Spencer is not the one being made fun of. She doesn't know how to feel.

Steve shows up to rob Spencer of her moment, making his own big scene by flirting with Lauren.

Unfortunately for him, Lauren doesn't believe in love.

Yikes. Steve does not take rejection well.

Spencer decides now is the time to leave.

"I think I aged up gracefully," Leann Chandra says, "but when I went to put my formal wear on, THIS happened."

"You were absolutely right to call me," Glycerine answers.

Glycerine does such a great job styling Leann that Leann's daughter, Selina, wants a makeover too.

"I can't look this dumpy for my upcoming wedding. And happy pastels are what I should wear around my little pumpkin, right?" she asks, glancing towards the toddler crawling on the carpet.

Glycerine can hardly believe this is the same Selina Chandra who went to school with Spencer not too long ago. Life changes so fast. Wyatt Fox is still in high school, though, and obviously not about to become Selina's groom, so Glycerine decides to risk looking unprofessional by making small-talk about him during Selina's makeover.

Selina is all too happy to talk about how much of an a-hole her ex-boyfriend was, even though he's still a high school student. She dumped him after he repeatedly dated other girls behind her back.

"His mother and mine are best friends, so he just wanted me around to make her happy," Selina laughs bitterly about it. "I think his mommy is the only woman that boy will ever actually care about."

"I wish Spencer would forget him," Glycerine says.

"She will, don't worry! As soon as she finds somebody else."

Spencer and the rest of the students in her school's music club took a trip to the art theater's orchestra room. "The town orchestra is like ten old dudes who come out to play at town functions," she explains to her mother. "I didn't even realize that was a thing."

"New career path aspirations unlocked?" Glycerine teases.

"I also found out Moth Heart is coming back to the hometown to do some shows."

"Uh... huh?"

"Mom, they performed here when you were a teenager. They're locals."

"Really?"

"They went through Lucky Palms and Starlight Shores and everything. They're big."

"I'll take your word for it."

"Wyatt's uncle was in the band for a while," Spencer says, carefully, "He's going to make sure I get to meet them."

Glycerine narrows her eyes at her daughter. "If he asks for something in return, just don't even think about it."

"I'm not stupid, Mom."

"I actually styled Selina today. She had some damning things to say about that boy."

Spencer's face reddens. "Why would you ask her about Wyatt? Ohmyplums that is so embarrassing."

"I guess you don't want to hear about it then."

"No! Tell me everything!"

After much deliberation, Mike moves in with Tilde instead of the other way around.

I was concerned Tilde's room might not be large enough to accommodate a double bed, but as you can see it's fine.

A big wedding party isn't their style, so they choose to have a more intimate, private wedding at Cinnamon Crest Falls... one of Tilde's favorite places, as it is frequently visited by wild horses. Also her father took her fishing here a lot when she was small, so, lots of good memories.

Jym normally sells this specific nectar blend for over a thousand simoleons per bottle, but a sibling getting married is a special occasion, so he breaks open this one for the family to enjoy.

"So both of my sisters married drink mixers. I bet neither one has served anything this good."

"Don't even start," Glycerine sighs.

"I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS. Didn't I style Gareth Lionheart before? Why is he back in his old terrible clothes???"

The game crashed, Glycerine. You have to start over.

"WhAt?!! All of my work?! Discarded?!?!?!"

Your career is bugging out the game. We need to get to next generation, ASAP.

But first, more clients.

Roscoe Button here is a teenage, family-oriented, evil genius... smart enough to know he needs help with style if he wants to impress his crush, the beautiful Griselda Whipsnake.

Catering to a client's tastes can be difficult. Sometimes they have no taste at all, and rely solely on her judgments. Other times... well. This young man demanded to look villainous.

Roscoe grins. "The hat pleases me. I'll spare you and your family when I rain my reckoning down upon this pitiful town."

"That's wonderful," Glycerine replies.

She just wants to get through her day and get paid.

Jym's nectary brand, small as it is, has through toils and time achieved some renown in the region. The city of Appaloosa Plains awards Jym with this... spherical trophy thing. He's not sure what to do with it, it's so ugly, so it sits in his bedroom collecting dust.

"You're a nectar genius!" the mayor said. "Nay, you are OUR nectar genius!"

It was a cute speech, at least.

Jym makes an attempt to get to know Tilde's husband.

"So, I do most of the cooking around here. What do you like to eat?"

"I'm a vegetarian!"

"Awesome, I have a lot of vegetarian recipes, and a perfect garden."

"My favorite food is frog legs!"

"...I'm sorry, what?"

"It's French!"

"But you're a vegetarian?"

"Yes!"

Jym frowns. "Mike, do you know what a frog is?"

Mike nods. "It's okay if you don't have any frogs in your garden."

Glycerine is called on to style an old friend.

"But Gus, you've had that hair since high school. You really want me to change it?"

"It's about time, don't you think?"

It's weird to see her brother's on again, off again lover as an elder.

Even weirder to think she too will be an elder soon.

"Take care of yourself, Gus."

Spencer does not feel ready, but young adulthood has arrived.

_______________________________________________
Etc.: Generation 3 begins. I've rolled Party to Remember for the third time in a row, and "A Sim for All Seasons" for the first time ever.

Unlike Cinnamon, Jym managed to max out the nectar making career, not that there was any doubt since I had him working on it his whole life. Generation 3 will probably remain in this household for a little while, but there is not enough room here for the size of the family Spencer is required to have.
